SGS College vs Charnwood College

Charnwood College kicked off their EABL campaign with a 72-54 away win, defeating SGS College in Bristol.

The first quarter was where Charnwood established a lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the game.

Dominant inside play from GB Under-18 Hosana Kitenge and control at the point from Charnwood’s other GB player, Sesan Russell, meant the travelling team jumped out to a 24-9 lead at the end of the first ten minutes.

SGS College found their rhythm more in the second quarter with both Corey Samuels and Aj Edu scoring multiple baskets but the lead stayed at 17 by half time.

“It was always going to be a test playing the EABL finalists from last season but it was an obvious improvement on last year for us,” said SGS Coach Guy Coles.

“Now we have to watch the video and recognise the areas that we can control and improve and be better for next week.”

Top scorers for Charnwood were Russell with 18, Morgan Carter 10 and Kitenge with 9.

SGS were led by AJ Edu’s 17, whilst Samuels and Khan added 11 each.

Charnwood have a rest next Wednesday while SGS travel away to face Derby College/Noel Baker School, which will be another test for the Bristol side.
