SGS College vs Loreto College

SGS College managed to win at home versus Loreto College 77-70 on Wednesday in a closely fought affair.

Loreto travelled to SGS College, WISE Campus without one of their main players Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo who was out for the game due to injury but still put up stiff competition throughout the contest.

The first quarter was tight throughout, as baskets were traded due in large part to careless play from both teams leading to scores from turnovers.

The second ten minutes started well for Loreto who went on an 8-0 run to take a 6 point lead. SGS chipped away at this for the rest of the quarter and when half time came it was a 1 point lead for Loreto 35-34.

The second half saw a battle between SGS’s Corey Samuels and Loreto’s Michael Anumba and a continued tight scoring affair. AJ Edu was the difference maker for SGS, with a total of 23 rebounds, 13 of these on the offensive glass, to go with his 29 points.

With this dominance on the boards and a clutch shot towards the end of the game by Ebuka Ekwegh SGS managed to sneak the win, one that could have gone either way.

SGS Coach Guy Coles was pleased to get their second win of the EABL season: “Today could have gone either way, and it is a great confidence boost to win a game like that. We know that we need to continue to work on our offensive execution but today showed that in key moments players are ready to step up which is hugely positive”.

Ekwegh and Samuels added 13 each for SGS, whilst Michael Anumba led Loreto with 23, and Wesley Oba had 18.
