SGS College vs Loreto College

Despite a spirited performance, SGS suffered a 59-68 home loss to Loreto College at the SGS WISE campus on Wednesday afternoon.

The visitors displayed their intentions early taking a 5 point lead, 12 to 17, at the end of the first quarter but SGS responded with a strong second quarter defensive performance to see the two sides going at halftime tied at 26.

After a very tight third quarter contest, Loreto was able to secure a 3 point lead going into the final quarter, however, it was a crucial 8-2 run at the start of the fourth that gave the visitors a commanding 8 point lead. SGS tried to respond cutting the deficit to six, however, big shots by Loreto’s Ramic and Blachut iced the game for the Manchester side.

“We are very proud of the character our team has displayed this season,” said SGS Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas.

“We have improved so much through the course of the year and again today we put together a very strong performance. We picked a couple of injuries in the 2nd half that slowed down our rhythm and credit to Loreto for hitting some big shots and staying composed to finish the game.

“It’s has been a difficult season for our young men but we are making so much progress. We have two games remaining and we want to try to get some wins under our belt to finish the season on a high note.”

For SGS, AJ Edu finished with 18 points and Ebuka Ekwegh added 10 while Loreto were led by Michael Anumba and Arinza Emeka-Anyakwo who top scored with 16 points each.

SGS College will return to action next week when they travel to Derby whilst Loreto take on Allerton at home.
