South Gloucestershire & Stroud College vs Newcastle Eagles Academy

Newcastle Eagles Academy picked up a big win on the road with a tightly contested 74-65 victory away to SGS college.

Newcastle made an explosive start, jumping out to a 14-3 advantage in the first three and a half minutes thanks to Moores’ quick 6 points. SGS stabilised briefly after a timeout and although Newcastle stretched the lead again to 14, the deficit was cut back to 11 by the end the quarter. From this point onwards it was a game of runs, with the lead hovering between 5 and 8 points. However, SGS were not able to gain the lead at any point as Newcastle held on with timely scoring.

SGS captain and final year player Ethan Malschuk was philosophical after the game, “We let ourselves down with a poor start but had some good spells throughout the rest of the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough to get the win, but we have come a long way since the start of the season.”

Theo Riley led all scorers with 31 for Newcastle, while Henry Ogilvie led the home side with 13 points in his final game for SGS

Newcastle will look to carry the momentum into their final two home games vs Sheffield College and Derby.
