The Canterbury Academy 100 – 25 USP College

The Canterbury Academy Crusaders destroyed USP College 100-25 on Wednesday in EABL action.

Canterbury dominated start to finish in the one sided game, hitting 7 3s in the first quarter to race out to a big lead they never relinquished.

Canterbury Head Coach Adam Davies summed the game up saying, “ After the time off it’s nice to come back to a game where you can run off some Christmas turkey and iron out things ready for second half of the season. But we expected it to be more competitive being the EABL.”

Will Raife scored 15 of his game high 21 points in the first quarter . With Daniel Oghagbon dominating the boards and Robbie Graham and Chester Morrell also hitting from outside, Canterbury finished the first quarter with a 32-8 lead.

The second quarter saw more of the same as USP went 7 minutes without scoring a point. 8 different players scored for Canterbury during the quarter as they stretched the lead to 58-12 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same. Canterbury got scoring contributions from everyone in a balanced attack, while USP continued to struggle incurring numerous shot clock violations and late forced shots.

Crusaders point guard Jonathan Fakile was happy with the win saying, “It was a great result after coming back from the break. We showed some real toughness on defence forcing them into bad shots or 24 second violations. On offence we wore their players down with our pace and didn’t fall into the trap of players trying to get their own.”

Joining Raife in double figures for Canterbury was Graham with 15, Morrell and Oghagbon with 13 each and Kieran Farrell with 10. Kobbi Banks was the sole bright spot for USP, scoring 19 of their 25 points.

Canterbury move to 7-4 and face a trip to BHASVIC next week, while USP will continue to seek their first win when they travel to JMA in two weeks.
