The Sheffield College 66 – 87 Derby Trailblazers Academy

The Sheffield College suffered a loss to a Derby team in good form, going down 87-66 at Sheffield College.

An impressive start on defence from both teams led to some tough buckets being scored, with the 1st quarter ending up 22-16 to the visitors.

However, Derby’s transition game was a killer blow for the hosts as Derby scored 29 points in the 2nd quarter ,effectively ending the game by half time.

The 3rd period was evenly matched between the two teams, though that didn’t help Sheffield make inroads into their deficit.

Down by 27 in the 4th, Sheffield boys rallied and cut the lead down to 17 at one point with big plays coming from across their roster. However, no serious comeback could be crafted as Derby applied more pressure and stretched their lead once again.

Blake Bowman top scored for Derby with 35 points as Stuart Matimba had 12 points and Dominic Prospere added 11 more.

Sheffield’s vice captain Tom Oakley said: “Although we didn’t win, I was impressed with the improvements from the last game against Derby, especially in the 4th where we showed what we are capable of.”

Sheffield’s JJ Wright followed up a 28 point performance last time out with 23 here against a tough Derby team. Tom Morey droped 16 points, whilst centre Mo Ibrahim finished on 10.

Sheffield take on Charnwood next week hoping for a upset whilst Derby host unbeaten Myerscough in what should be an exciting clash.
