The Sheffield College vs James Watt College

James Watt College secured big 57-86 win on the road at The Sheffield College, as the West Midlands side improved to 2-2 on the season in the Northern Conference.

The first quarter got off to a fast pace with both teams finding success on offence by running the break. James Watt were able to finish the quarter stronger and went into the second leading 16-24. A low scoring second quarter finished 5-12 to James Watt as both teams picked up the intensity on the defensive end.

The second half saw more of the same as a depleted Sheffield squad struggled to break down a well-organised Birmingham defence, allowing the visitors to eventually run out as 57-86 winners.

James Watt were paced by 22 points from Wakeem Richardson, as Ian Rodriguez added 19 and Daniel Penkov chipped in 18. Sheffield were led by JJ Wright who finished with 14 points in the loss.

Sheffield Coach Brad Connor said, “It was a great learning game for our players today despite the result.  In spells we played some fantastic basketball but we now need to improve our consistency and limit turnovers.”

“Credit must go to James Watt as they made it a very physical game and played tough defence throughout,” added Coach Connor.

Wright’s efforts for Sheffield were supported by Alex Lycoudis and Reyad West who combined for an additional 22 points, whilst Luke Caulwell contributed 16 points for the visitors.

Sheffield head on the road to Myerscough College on 14 November, whilst James Watt will visit Manchester Magic.
