The Sheffield College vs SGS College

SGS College secured their first win of the season in the EABL Southern Conference with a 53-60 win on the road at The Sheffield College.

SGS started better of the two teams, taking an early 2-8 lead in the first few minutes of the game. Sheffield Coach Brad Connor was forced to call an early timeout and his team came out with more aggression, going on a 13-0 run to finish the first quarter leading 15-8.

The second quarter saw a swing in momentum as SGS picked up the defence, started running the floor and picking up offensive rebounds. They won the second quarter 12-23 and went in at the half with a four point advantage.

The third quarter was tied 15-15, as with both teams played solid defence and limited easy opportunities. A resilient and controlled performance in final quarter saw SGS take a close 53-60 win with Louis Weaver top scoring with 25 points. Sheffield were led by JJ Wright who finished with 17.

Sheffield Coach Brad Connor said, “It was a great learning game for our players today despite the result.  We need to play team basketball and we will be working hard in training to put this right.”

“Credit must go to SGS as they played the better team basketball today and they fully deserved the win.”

Sheffield got support from Alex Lycoudis and Reyad West who combined for 20 points, whilst Sam Chigbo finished with 11 points for the visitors.

Sheffield take on Manchester Magic Academy at home next week, whilst SGS visit James Watt College on the same day.
