EABL Player of the Week – 16 February 2022

We’re down to just a few weeks left in the EABL regular season but there’s still time to fit in a few more worthy Players of the Week.

This week’s winner put up a stunning display from beyond the arc, dropping seven three pointers as the exclamation point on a strong outing.

Derby’s Mandre Costa helped his side to an important 85-69 victory against James Watt College-BMet, a rival for the Northern conference’s fourth and final playoff spot.

Costa’s efforts from range helped him close on 26 points, adding six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals to close with an efficiency of 24.

After winning the award, Costa said: “I’m happy to receive this award but it’s an award that’s not just for me but the whole team.

“My shot felt like anything I put up will go in when we played James Watt and my teammates really helped me get open and got me some great passes to hit a load of threes.

“We’ve been on a good run in the EABL recently and we are looking to close out the season with no more loses, I can’t wait for the post season.”

Coach Matt Shaw added: “I’m delighted to see Mandre pick up this award. He’s such a fierce competitor and he brings a great attitude everyday.

“Going 7/11 from the three is impressive, but I have to say it’s a reflection of Dre’s work, he’s always getting shots up.”
