EABL Player of the Week – 26 January 2022

The number of regular season games left between now and the playoffs continues to fall ever-lower, but players across the league keep getting better week after week.

It makes choosing an EABL Player of the Week a tough task, but last time out there was a clear candidate for the honour amongst a wide selection of strong performances.

After helping Myerscough continue their charge for top spot in the Northern conference, Bryan Akanmu’s numbers jumped off the page.

Myerscough saw off an improving Sheffield College side 86-66, with the young forward stuffing the stat sheet in the process.

With 26 points from a 12/19 shooting performance, the ‘Sco man also pulled down 15 rebounds (six on offence), dished five dimes, nabbed three steals and rejected three shots.

His all-around effort resulted in a 41 efficiency rating that ranked as the top across the EABL last week by a full 11 points.

Speaking about his performance, Akanmu said: “It’s an honour to win Player of the Week, this wouldn’t have been possible without my team.”

Head coach Neal Hopkins added: “Bryan has been having a great season, he is working incredibly hard and is really maturing into a fantastic player, this is worthy recognition for his efforts.”
