EABL Player of the Week – 2 March 2022

The playoffs might be just about upon us, but that didn’t stop EABL players from pulling out some fine performances this past week.

With teams battling right down to the last to ensure their playoff spots, one man stood tallest across this week’s candidates.

Denying Charnwood their perfect season, Bryan Akanmu claimed his second EABL Player of the Week award of 2021/22 as he pushed Myerscough to a 92-79 victory.

Dropping 34 points on an impressive 15/20 shooting day, Akanmu also pulled down 17 boards (nine on offence) to go with six assists and a steal.

His 49 efficiency rating and 53.9 adjusted efficiency rating were both easily the highest in the league this past week, another testament to his solid performance against the Northern conference winners.

After winning the award, Akanmu said: “Everything went right for me that day, from the moment I woke up!

“I was on ‘go’ from the start of the game and kept going at mismatches on the court. Thanks to my team, they saw nobody was stopping me so they kept finding me.

“I am proud to be Player of the Week again but we’re just focused on the playoffs now.”

Coach Neal Hopkins added: “Bryan has really stepped up this season.

“He has shown time and time again that he has the ability to play at the next level, he competes extremely hard and has made massive improvements.

“Winning Player of the Week for a second time is a testament to his efforts.”
