EABL Player of the Week – 1 February 2023

Better late than never, battling some stats hiccups delayed the selection of our first EABL Player of the Week for February, but we’re now able to reveal the worthy winner.

After helping to keep Manchester’s playoff push on track with an 83-71 victory over rivals Derby, Magic’s Shaquille Furlonge is our latest recipient.

The promising forward dropped 16 points for his side, going a perfect 6/6 from the field that also involved hitting his only attempt from beyond the arc.

Adding 11 rebounds for the double-double plus assist, two steals and a pair of blocks, Furlonge did a bit of everything to help his side seal a valuable W.

Staying turnover free in the contest helped the North West prospect to a final efficiency rating of 29, and his +/- of +24 in such a narrow win displayed his value.

Speaking about the game, Furlonge said: “My team mates showed a lot of trust in me to make plays and shots when they were needed in such a crucial game.

“The majority of my shots were part of our offensive rhythm and I believe that our pregame strategy was very beneficial.

“Our confidence is high and we have great momentum moving into our future games, which we aim to win to earn a playoff position.”

Manchester Magic head coach Peter Paraskeva added: “It’s fantastic to see Shaq win this award. He is one of the most dedicated and hard working guys I’ve ever worked with.

“Considering he has only been playing organised basketball for a few years, it is a testament to his ability to pick up skills and concepts quickly and apply them in games.”
