EABL Player of the Week – 8 February 2023

Six foot one guard Declan Kom was Player of the Week for the 8 February in recognition of his mega 37 points against SGS, marring their drive for a playoff spot in the EABL Northern Conference, as the regular season wraps up.

This season, the Sheffield College star has a 42.4FG%, is collecting 4.3 rebounds per game, dishing 2.3 assists and averaging 22 points per game.

Being a multi-faceted player will put him in good stead when Sheffield College face teams in the European Youth Basketball League (EYBL).

There’s also the opportunity to upset Derby’s playoff berth drive, when they face each other on the 22 February, post half-term.

“We came into the game with energy and an agenda to let people know that we are better than what we have shown this season and with the trust of my teammates and coaching staff I was able to set the tone early,” said Kom

“This win now gives us momentum going into stage two of The European Youth Basketball League and we are looking to go unbeaten for the remainder of the season.”

Sheffield College Head Coach Brad Connor said: “I’m delighted Declan has been recognised as POTW, as he’s been putting in top performances all season.

“Declan has an incredible work ethic in practice and has taken his game to another level this season. We’re now looking to build on this great team performance as focus shifts to stage two of the EYBL in Budapest.”
