EABL Player of the Week – 1 March 2023

There’s only short time left in the regular season, but rather than winding down, some players couldn’t be playing at a higher level.

With some teams already sealing their playoff spot, others are pushing hard to make sure they’re not left behind. Understandably, that’s led to some standout performances that are in the mix for the latest EABL Player of the Week award.

SGS College are one of those teams looking to make a late push for the postseason and their recent 82-76 upset of second place Charnwood College Riders produced not one but two worthy POTW candidates.

Whilst Louie Tucker’s 27 point effort was a great performance, this week’s award goes to team mate Cam Watson.

With 13 points, plus nine assists and eight boards, Watson flirted with a triple-double that proved key to SGS’ win, and his 24 efficiency was more than deserved as he also added four steals for good measure.

Speaking about the award, Watson said: “It’s good too see the hard work I’ve put in through the year helping to contribute to an important win.

“It was good for our team to bounce back after a tough loss against a tough team, we need to continue this momentum to finish out the season.”

SGS head coach Chris Bourne added: “It’s great to see Cam get recognition for his efforts. He has continued to improve due to his hard work and is a great leader for our team.”
